BANKING UNIVERSTY HOSTED INTERNATIONAL SEMINAR

THE 5th INTERNATIONAL SEMINAR OF REGIONAL NETWORK ON POVERTY ERADICATION

After two fruiful working days, the 5th International Seminar of Regional Network on Poverty Eradication – RENPER5, hosted by Banking University of Ho Chi Minh City, has successfully been completed.  

The seminar this year brought together nearly 200 delegates, scholars, teachers, researchers from 26 universities and research institutes in South Asia and Southeast Asia. Over 80 papers were presented and discussed in 17 sessions on poverty reduction related issues such as: the situattion of poverty and solutions for poverty eradication in countries, mircro finance, culture, social responsibility, health care, agricultural economics, gender equality, community service, education and employment, environment, energy, etc.

The opening ceremony took place on October 22nd, 2014 with over 200 participants. The Organizing Committee was pleased to welcome the hearty participation of the representatives from the State Bank of Vietnam; management, lecturers, researchers, and delegates from universities, research institutes and organizations from the South and Southeast Asian countries, including: Bangladesh, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philipines, India, Thailand and Vietnam; managing board of Tay Nguyen University, the University of Buon Me Thuot, Thu Dau Mot University, Thai Nguyen University, Foreign Trade University, Open University, University of Economics, etc. and some central and local agencies, media organizations, as well as the School Administrators, Department Heads, and lecturers and students of Banking University HCMC. On this occasion, the Banking University of Ho Chi Minh city was honored to welcome Prof. Dr. Ibrahim Bin Che Omar - Chairman of RENPER.

Giving the opening remark at the event, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ly Hoang Anh, RENPER 5 Chairman, emphasized that the establishment of regional networks on poverty elimination is one of the essential initiatives to appeal for and internationalize the participation of universities in this complicated fight. RENPER is intended to become a strong alliance of universities in order to establish the position of academics in supporting government agencies and non-governmental organizations in poverty reduction. This alliance will concurrently convey the most practical and compelling messages on the sense of responsbility to the community and to global issues to future generations.

On this occasion, RENPER council have had a meeting and decided to establish various research groups to enhance the research collaboration between the member universities, to establish a scientific journal to publish research papers submitted to RENPER seminar every year. Accordingly, the council has decided RENPER 6 2015 to be hold at the Indian Institute of Technology. On the same day, Assoc. Ly Hoang Anh - Rector and Dr. Ridwan Nurazi Bank – President of University of Bengulu, Indonesia, have signed a cooperative contract on faculty and student exchange.

Besides, Banking University has organized other activities such as field trip, cultural exchange program with lots of traditional performances of Vietnam and other Asian countries.

With the success of RENPER5, Banking University has set up a lauching pad to promote the information exchange and cooperative activities in training and scientific research in the region and all over the world.
